Bro. David James Wemyss

Right Worshipful Provincial Grand Master of Aberdeenshire East (2024 – )

David James Wemyss has been an active and dedicated member of Freemasonry for over three decades, serving his Lodges with commitment and sincerity. His journey began on 29th August 1992, when he was initiated into the Fraserburgh Lodge of Freemasons No. 1055. He progressed through the degrees, attaining the rank of Master Mason by 21st November of the same year and advancing to the Degree of Mark Master Mason on 20th February 1993.

Throughout his time in Freemasonry, David has taken on various responsibilities to support the smooth running of his Lodges. He has served as Junior Deacon, Senior Deacon, Worshipful Junior Warden, and Worshipful Senior Warden before being given the opportunity to serve as Right Worshipful Master in December 1996. He held this position for two years and later returned for additional terms, amounting to a total of five years of service in this role. Since December 2010, he has contributed as Treasurer, ensuring the financial administration of the Lodge.

David has also been involved in Lodge Aurora Borealis No. 1809 in the Province of Banffshire, a Lodge of Research dedicated to the North East of Scotland. Having been involved since its formation in 1995, he has taken on different roles over the years, including serving as Right Worshipful Master from 2006 to 2008 and later as Lodge Secretary for nine years.

To support Freemasonry in Fraserburgh, David also affiliated with Lodge Solomon, offering assistance where needed. In this Lodge, he undertook several roles, eventually serving as Right Worshipful Master for two years. He currently holds the position of Chaplain, a role he has carried out since stepping down as Master.

Beyond individual Lodges, David has participated in the activities of The Provincial Grand Lodge of Aberdeenshire East. He began attending meetings during the tenure of Right Worshipful Provincial Grand Master Brother Douglas Grant and continued through subsequent leaderships, taking on responsibilities as needed. His efforts were acknowledged when he was invited to serve as Worshipful Provincial Grand Chaplain by R.W.I.P.P.G.M. Brother Ronald Simpson. More recently, he took on the role of Depute Provincial Grand Master under R.W.P.G.M. Brother Dr. Douglas Nicol, supporting the work of the Provincial Grand Lodge and its Daughter Lodges. In August 2024, David was honoured to be appointed as Right Worshipful Provincial Grand Master, a role he now undertakes with a focus on strengthening the Lodge community and ensuring the continued prosperity of the Province.

David believes it is important for Lodges to remain well-represented, and he regularly attends Grand Lodge Communication meetings to support this effort.

Alongside his Masonic commitments, David and his wife enjoy taking part in the social side of Freemasonry, attending events at both Lodge and Provincial levels. He values the opportunity to include wives and partners in Masonic life, fostering a sense of community and togetherness.

David James Wemyss remains grateful for the opportunities he has had to contribute to Freemasonry and continues to support his Lodges to the best of his ability.
