On Saturday 7th February, the brethren of Lodge St Andrew 518 gathered for one of the most significant and symbolic occasions in the Masonic calendar—the Installation of a new Right Worshipful Master. In a ceremony marked by dignity, tradition, and fraternal warmth, Bro. David Hutcheon PM was installed into the Chair of King Solomon, assuming leadership of the Lodge for the coming year.
The ceremony was conducted by Bro. Douglas Nicol, Immediate Past Provincial Grand Master of Aberdeenshire East Province, accompanied by an installing team drawn from several lodges throughout the Province. Their presence reflected not only the importance of the occasion but also the strong bonds of unity and cooperation that exist among the lodges of Aberdeenshire East.
The Significance of the Chair of King Solomon
Within Freemasonry, the Chair of King Solomon represents wisdom, leadership, and stewardship. To be installed into this Chair is both an honour and a solemn responsibility. It signifies the trust placed in a brother by his peers to guide the Lodge with fairness, integrity, and commitment to Masonic principles.
Bro. David Hutcheon, a Past Master with experience and dedication to the Craft, now takes up this mantle. His installation was carried out with precision and reverence, adhering to the time-honoured rituals that have been preserved and passed down through generations. These ceremonies, rich in symbolism, remind all present of the enduring values of Freemasonry—brotherly love, relief, and truth.
A Provincial Effort
One of the highlights of the day was the collaborative spirit demonstrated by the installing team. Drawn from several lodges across Aberdeenshire East, the team exemplified the strength of the wider Masonic family. Their collective effort ensured the ceremony was conducted flawlessly, earning well-deserved congratulations for a job exceptionally well done.
Such cooperation underscores the unity that exists beyond individual lodges. It reflects a Province working together in harmony, supporting one another and strengthening the foundations of the Craft.
The Installation of Office Bearers
Alongside Bro. Hutcheon, his team of Office Bearers was also installed. Each office within a Lodge carries its own duties and responsibilities, contributing to the smooth and effective running of Lodge affairs. From the Senior and Junior Wardens to the Treasurer, Secretary, Deacons, and Stewards, every role plays a vital part in maintaining the Lodge’s traditions and fostering its future growth.
The installation of the full team symbolises collective responsibility. While the Right Worshipful Master leads, the success of the Lodge depends on the dedication and cooperation of all its officers and members.
An Excellent Day of Fellowship
Beyond the formality of ritual, the day was characterised by genuine warmth and fellowship. Installations are not merely administrative transitions; they are celebrations of continuity, renewal, and shared purpose. Brethren gathered not only to witness history in the making but also to renew friendships and strengthen fraternal bonds.
The atmosphere was one of pride and optimism. Visitors and members alike shared in the satisfaction of seeing Lodge St Andrew 518 embark on a new chapter under capable leadership.
Looking Ahead
With Bro. David Hutcheon now firmly in the Chair, Lodge St Andrew 518 stands poised for a successful and productive year. His experience as a Past Master, combined with the support of his Office Bearers and the wider Province, provides a strong foundation for continued growth and harmony.
As expressed by Bro. Douglas Nicol, congratulations are extended to the installing board for their exemplary work, and sincere best wishes are offered to Brother Davy for a rewarding year ahead. Leadership in Freemasonry is not merely about governance—it is about inspiration, service, and upholding the values that define the Craft.
The Installation on 7th February will be remembered as a day of dignity, unity, and celebration—an occasion that reaffirmed the strength and vitality of Lodge St Andrew 518 and the Province of Aberdeenshire East.
May the coming year be marked by progress, prosperity, and the enduring spirit of brotherhood.
